Sunday February 1st

Welcome to the month of all things red and pink hearts. I adore St. Valentines, especially the historic story of St. Valentine. I am a bit of a rebel so thinking that the holiday may have begun because someone was defying the law, to do good, is quite appealing to me. Grab a cup of your favourite tea and read about St. Valentines Day here.

While celebrating everything valentines, the decorations, baking, special meals and treats I am preparing for our very first weekend open, Saturday April 4th and Sunday April 5th. Yes, that is right the Easter weekend! How exciting to have the first weekend we open be such a special occasion. I have been busy preparing the Easter Afternoon tea menu. Combining our favourite recipes and adding a few new ones as well.

New to the Tea Room, let me explain Afternoon Tea. This is an English tradition begun in the 1840’s presumably by the Duchess of Bedford. She was very hungry late afternoon, thus requested a snack from the kitchen be sent up to her bedroom. As she shared her snacking ritual with friends they too wanted to join. The innocent snack turned into a great English tradition that includes etiquette and necessities that I love to talk about because “tea accoutrements” sounds so important when really you are simply speaking of tea strainers, tea trays, infusers, sugar cube tongs and the like. For those who know me best they know that I adore dressing up so the afternoon tea wardrobe just might be my favourite part of afternoon tea. Fascinators, tiaras, gloves, jewelry, gowns and shoes for the ladies. I look forward to enjoying myself for out special Afternoon Tea celebrations once again.

At Dragonfly Delights Tea Room our Afternoon Tea consists of three dainty sandwiches or savories, two delicious scones, and three delightful sweets. This is plated on a three-tiered tray along with fresh fruit, fresh vegetables and of course scones cream and preserves. You get to choose which beverage you would like to add to your tea time experience. A pot of tea of course would be the guest favourite but a cup of coffee, mug of hot chocolate or some juice is perfectly acceptable.

A regular Afternoon Tea costs $35 while a Petit Afternoon tea is available for $25. This smaller version is two sandwiches, one scone, two sweets with your choice of beverage. If you have dietary restrictions or special dietary instructions for the kitchen, please add five dollars to the cost. Our kitchen does their best to accommodate these requests.

Our kitchen is small thus we can not guarantee cross contamination. I assure you that we do our very best. Cleaning thoroughly often and baking gluten free only on set days especially helps us with keeping our guests safe.

If you would like to enjoy an Easter Afternoon Tea experience with friends and family please make your reservation by calling 204-729-8914, or email info@DragonflyDelightsTeaRoom.com

Wishing you a most delightful day and week ahead

~ Joanne
